Et gammelt kinesisk folkesagn er blevet til et fantastisk eventyr fyldt med spænding, følelser og masser af humor i Disney´s 36. Tegnede klassiker Mulan.
Mulan er en ung og modig pige, der ikke rigtig passer ind i det traditionsbundne kinesiske samfund.
Da hendes gamle og svagelige far bliver indkaldt til Kejserens hær, fordi Hun-krigerne planlægger et angreb mod kejserdømmet, træffer hun en utænkelig beslutning.
Hun klæder sig ud som en mand, og indtager faderens plads i hæren.
Her træner hun med en gruppe krigere, der ledes af kaptajn Shang.
Med sig har hun to umage følgesvende: Den lille sjove drage Mushu, der ifølge kinesisk tro vil beskytte hende og fårekyllingen Krikee, der bringer held.
Men Mulan får brug for mere end Mushu´s hvasse tunge og skøre idéer for at bekæmpe Hun-krigernes skånselsløse leder, Shan-Yu.
Kun ved at følge sit hjerte kan Mulan blive en dygtig kriger, der kan give sejr til sit land og bringe sin familie ære.
