Beskrivelse:
Award-winning comedienne, actress and performer Victoria Wood made her sitcom debut (as both star and writer) in this bittersweet comedy series. A huge hit with the critics and public alike (it regularly attracted over nine million viewers), Dinnerladies was awarded the Press Prize at the 39th Golden Rose festival of Montreux along with Best New TV Comedy and Best TV Sitcom at the British Comedy Awards.
Bren (Victoria Wood), Jean (Anne Reid - Bleak house), Dolly (Thelma Barlow - Coronation Street), Anita (Shobna Gulati - Coronation Street) and Twinkle (Maxine Peak - Shameless) work as dinnerladies at a manky old canteen in a factory just outside Manchester. There they come to work, put on their overalls, mess about with tins of beans, wash up, take off their overalls and go home. But, within that daily routine, they bicker and fall out, run into the toilet crying, plan romances, weigh themselves, fantasize and try to read the telly pages without their glasses...
While the other dinnerladies feel far from fulfilled, Bren is so dedicated to her profession that she actually enjoys scraping leftovers into plastic dustbins. In fact the only fly in her custard is her eccentric and manipulative mother, Petula (Julie Walters - Billy Elliot, Driving Lessons), who lives in a caravan on a petrol station forecourt and claims to know Sacha Distel.
Serving alongside the girls are manager Tony (Andrew Dunn) and Stan (Duncan Preston), the men who make life a little more interesting.
Meanwhile, newly arrived from the Surrey Suburbs is scatty Human Resources Manager, Philippa (Celia Imrie - Nanny McPhee). Totally baffled by her colleagues, her solution is to try and win them over with Scottish Country Dancing and Feng Shui.
One thing's for sure, from granary torpedoes to breaking wind in a food preparation area to a royal visit, this lot really know how to dish up the laughs.
